CHARITON, Iowa - It'll be a rite of passage this weekend in Iowa. That's because 10,000 young hunters will be participating in the deer season, which opens tomorrow.
Forest Wildlife Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Jim Coffey told KXCV/KRNW that the youth season is designed as a mentor hunt.
He says a licensed adult will give a child a one-on-one hunting experience. During last year's hunting season, 3,500 deer were hunted.
